The Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes is reported to be preparing a proposal for an F1 event in the city.

Paes is believed to be seeking talks with the sport’s CEO Bernie Ecclestone in regard to hosting a second event in the nation, with Interlagos track in Sao Paulo an ever present on the Formula One calendar.

Despite te history of the current Brazilian event, Rio is keen to rival their proposal withPaes sating:

“Be prepared Sao Paulo because I am going to steal the Formula 1 from you.” Paes is quoted by Xinhua.

The track would most likely be street-based, taking in many of the sights of the city.
